WHAT IS IT TO BE HUMAN?
Perhaps there has never been a more important time to ask.

We are living through a difficult moment in the story of our species. We have become remarkably good at defining what separates us, and dangerously comfortable forgetting what connects us.

Politics. Race. Religion. Gender. Geography. Identity.

But before all of these things, we are human.

And humanity is more than what we are.
It is what we choose to do.
To see another person.
To care.
To stand beside them.
To turn compassion into action.

We are the only species capable of looking at the world we have created, imagining a different one, and deliberately choosing a new path forward.

That is our gift.
And our responsibility.

Because once we become aware of what we cause, we become responsible for what we choose next.

Maybe we have learned enough from anger.
Enough from division.
Enough from deciding whose life, voice, rights, pain or future matters more. 

​Because there is no environmental cause, human rights cause, racial cause, gender cause, animal cause or health cause that exists completely on its own.

They intersect.
They connect.
They are the Human Cause.

So this edition is not about ignoring the worst of humanity.
It is about choosing the best of it.

The people who care when it would be easier not to.
Who help when no one is watching.
Who understand that hope is not something we wait for.

Hope is something we do.

The future of humanity will be written by the choices humans make today.

So choose compassion.
Choose action.
Choose each other.
Choose humanity.

We will no longer ask for permission to change the world.
But we will ask for your help to change it. ∎
